Stranger In Paradise (7inch Version) In the early 1970s, the British disco scene saw a unique boom in dance music known as "Northern Soul," centered around discos like Blackpool Mecca and Wigan Casino. This dance music was based on the upbeat and lighthearted Motown sound of the 1960s, featuring a fairly up-tempo, poppy soul sound. In the American disco scene of the time, uptempo soul numbers that were less "black" and leaned more towards pop were difficult to make hits with. However, when played in Northern Soul discos in the UK, they often became hits there. Benny Troy, the subject of this album, released his 1975 disco single "I Wanna Give You Tomorrow," which is a perfect example of this. While it didn't receive a great response in America, it was a hit in the British Northern Soul scene, and he remains one of the well-known artists in the British Northern Soul scene today.
