This reissue covers all albums by the band founded by saxophonist Wendell Harrison and trombonist Fifil Ranelin, as well as works from their successor labels Wenha and Rebirth, and even works from Idibib, run by Doug Hammond. Many tracks are being released on CD for the first time, and bonus tracks include single recordings and alternate takes. This is the definitive series. This album was originally scheduled to be released by Strata-East but was cancelled, and thanks to the mediation of Wendell Harrison, who was close to the band, it was released by Tribe Records. Its origins and content are unusual for Tribe, but its rich, soulful music full of blackness has been widely supported and appreciated. Featuring two emotional vocal tunes, "Wake Up Brothers" and "For Real," as well as the explosive and fast-paced title track and "Moves," which was also covered by Charles Mingus, this debut album is a fulfilling collection that reflects Hammond and D?rer's enthusiasm.
