About the Artist: Dusko Gojkovi? is a popular melancholic trumpeter in Japan. Born in 1931 in the former Yugoslavia (now Bosnia and Herzegovina), Dasco became familiar with Dixieland jazz while studying at the Belgrade Conservatory. After moving to West Germany, he was selected to join the Youth Jazz Orchestra, composed of young European musicians, and performed at the Newport Jazz Festival in the United States. This led him to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, and he subsequently played with the Woody Herman Orchestra and the Maynard Ferguson Orchestra before returning to Europe in 1967. He was active as a soloist in the Francie Bolan and Kenny Clarke Big Bands and has also released numerous albums as a leader with his own combo. Since the late 1980s, he has released many masterpieces such as "Soul Connection" and "Samba do Mar" on ENJA, his home label, and at 86 years old, he remains one of the few jazz legends and masters who is still actively playing.
