About the Artists: Musicians: Duane Allman (g), Greg Allman (org, vo), Scott Boyer (g, vo), David Brown (b), Butch Trucks (ds, per) Butch Trucks, who later became the drummer for the Allman Brothers Band, and Cowboy, the legendary 70s Southern rock band that was active on Capricorn Records, which was also covered by Eric Clapton. Duane and Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers joined a session of The 31st of February, a rock trio formed by guitarist/singer-songwriter Scott Boyer (who also participated in the production of Boz Scaggs' band, Cowboy) during their student days! There are rumors that it was intended to be released as The 31st of February's second album, but perhaps because Gregg Allman took lead vocals on most of the tracks, it was released in 1972 under the name "Duane and Gregg Allman" on the Bold label, a subsidiary of T.K. Above all, it includes the first recording of "Melissa," which appeared on the Allman Brothers Band's masterpiece album "Eat a Peach" (1972), released after Duane Allman's death! Furthermore, it features "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out," famously re-recorded on Eric Clapton's acclaimed masterpiece "Layla," in which Duane Allman made a guest appearance, and "Morning Dew," also known for covers by the Grateful Dead and Jeff Beck!
