This collection of rare tracks, coveted by Detroit techno freaks, includes unreleased versions of his early masterpieces "I Was There" and "Monkey Jazz," created during the peak of Detroit techno in the mid-to-late 90s, as well as numerous rare works released on cult labels such as 4th Wave and Ferox. It also features the legendary unreleased track "The Magician," created in 1999, whose master was lost but was recently unearthed, as a bonus track!! Released first in Japan, the artwork is in a paper sleeve by collect.apply, a design team led by Kyoto-based British designer Hal Udell, who also designed Carl Craig's Tribe label logo and Innerzone Orchestra's album cover. About the Artist: In 1996, he released his debut album 'Desert Scores' on UK Ferox Records. He achieved a fusion of jazz, funk, and UK Detroit techno elements using unprecedented methods. He continued to release the 12" singles 'Mad Mike Disease' (dedicated to Mike Banks of UR) and 'Monkey Jazz'. In 1999, he released 'Gigantic Days' (Japan/Toys Factory) on the UK label Peacefrog, followed by 'A History of Things to Come' in 2001, both of which were critically acclaimed and commercially successful. His outstanding and unique synthesizer, guitar, and drum playing on both albums set him apart from other artists, and these works are famous as the unparalleled Ian O'Brien sound. Since then, he has collaborated with UK DJ & producer Kirk Degiorgio on the compilation 'The Soul Of Science', and together with Claude Young and Kirk Degiorgio, he released the 12" single "Promenade 2011" under the name Ian and Kirk's on Degiorgio's A.R.T. label, which is known as one of the best techno records of 2011. In 2011, he remixed Carl Craig's hit 'BUG IN THE BASSBIN' for Planet-E Recordings, receiving great acclaim. In 2013, he is scheduled to release his long-awaited 4th album 'Understanding Is Everything', his first in 12 years, and a collection of unreleased and rare tracks from the 90s, "I Was There (1995-2000)". He is also actively working on a collaboration with Lars Sandberg (FUNK D'VOID).
