Fabio Galliani: The roots of the ocarina lie in traditional European music. And in my opinion, the ocarina shines brightest when accompanied by two instruments typical of European folk music: the accordion and the guitar. For this reason, I conceived a project related to traditional European and Mediterranean music. This album contains both cheerful and melancholic melodies, but I believe that the sound woven together by the ocarina, accordion, guitar, and (my wife) Barbara's vocals makes every song wonderful. Of the various tracks, the one I would like to highlight in particular is "El Canto dels Ocerus" (The Bird Song), an ancient Catalan song that has become a hymn to world peace. World peace is a theme that has always been strong in our hearts. The natural sound of the ocarina reminds us of feelings of peace. Album Description This is the debut album of a quartet formed in 2022 by Fabio, the bandleader of the ocarina septet G.O.B., whose 2023 Japan tour was a great success. The ocarina was invented in 1853 in Budrio, near Bologna, Italy. Its founder was Giuseppe Donati. The ocarinas that Fabio uses are made in the same kiln where Donati first produced ocarinas. The sound of the ocarinas heard on this album can truly be called the original. Fabio plays ocarinas in various keys on this album, and plays six ocarinas in "Valzer Siciliano". He also plays a figurino, a ceramic flute that is a relative of the ocarina, a water whistle that imitates bird calls, and a clarinet. The string instruments used include guitar, oud, baglamadaki (Greek mandolin), and citala, while the percussion instruments include the darbuka and riq, familiar in the Arab world, as well as wooden spoons used as percussion. Using a variety of instruments, they recorded dance music and traditional songs from various parts of Europe. Furthermore, they included "The Song of the Birds," a Catalan folk song from Spain, and "Mautiny" (My Homeland), which was the national anthem of Palestine until the 1990s. The album embodies the desire to look to the roots of the ocarina and to convey its "peaceful sound" to many regions and people. He is the bandmaster of G.O.B. and the director of the Ocarina Museum in Budrio. Marco Fabbria: World-class ocarina playing technique, stability, and expressiveness. He enjoys immense support not only from Japan but also from ocarina fans throughout Asia, including Korea and China. Marco Fabbria: Accordion, bandoneon, vocals. In 1994, he won first prize as an accordionist at the Castelfidardo International Competition. Since then, he has collaborated with many musicians, including Milva and Jos? Carreras. He is also known for arranging Astor Piazzolla's music and as an accordion restorer. Laura Francavilla: Guitar, oud, Greek mandolin, mandolin, percussion (darbuka, req, wooden spoon), vocals.
