Oneohtrix Point Never, a close friend of The Weeknd and executive producer of "Dawn FM," releases his album "Magic Oneohtrix Point Never" as a special-price CD! Oneohtrix Point Never (OPN), a key contemporary producer who emerged in the scene as a successor to Reich, Eno, and Aphex Twin, released his 2020 album "Magic Oneohtrix Point Never" as a limited-quantity special-price edition. He served as executive producer on The Weeknd's latest work, "Dawn FM," and the connection to "Magic Oneohtrix Point Never" is evident in the concept of the work itself. Inspired by the origin of the name OPN, this work mimics the experience of listening to a radio station that starts in the morning, continues through the night, and ends. It begins with morning greetings, inserts fragments of pop music in the middle, and develops into a deeper style towards the end. But it's full of errors and anomalies, as is typical of OPN, with samples of old American FM jingles and DJ catchphrases clashing with New Age self-help slogans, creating a dark sense of humor. It moves freely between OPN's previous musical elements, such as the development of the sample collage masterpiece "Replica" that deconstructed New Age, the serene melodies of "R Plus Seven," his debut on Warp that brought him widespread recognition, the powerful noise of "Returnal," the conscious approach to pop music in "Garden Of Delete" and "Age Of," or the symphonic structure reminiscent of his work on film scores, and all of these are strangely integrated under the concept of a fictional radio station. ---------------------What's even more surprising is the sheer presence of Daniel Lopatin, also known as Oneohtrix Point Never, the electronic music maestro credited on all but three tracks of The Weeknd's "Dawn FM."
