Tyondai Braxton, a contemporary musician who also works as a composer, producer, and professor, and is known as a founding member of Battles, a revolutionary figure in the American alternative scene since the 2000s, has announced a contract with the important post-classical label Erased Tapes and will release his new album, "Splayed Werks"! "Splayed Werks" is his first full-length album since the symphonic work "Telekinesis," released in 2022. The majority of this album, which is over 70 minutes long, was created and recorded in his home studio. The grand sound design seen in his 2009 solo work "Central Market," the experimental spirit of "Hive 1" which made full use of modular synthesizers, and above all, the minimalist yet physical repetitive groove that has been consistently present since his Battles days, are crystallized in this masterpiece of over 70 minutes with unprecedented purity. Furthermore, the countless raw rhythms, which seem to veer beyond the vast dance floor of a club music venue, update the "mechanical yet strangely danceable" feeling reminiscent of his Battles days into a modern electronic soundscape. One can sense multi-layered influences, from IDM mavericks like Aphex Twin and Autechre to contemporary immersive sound artists like Mika Levy and Laurel Halo. It is compatible with club sound systems, possesses the spatiality of an art installation, and simultaneously exhibits the intellect of a contemporary music composer, yet remains intuitive and physical. The sound, in which mathematically constructed repetition and human fluctuations coexist, is precisely the unique domain that Tyondai has built in the experimental/electronic music scene.
