Flying Lotus's latest masterpiece, 'YASUKE', is set for release!! Featuring Thundercat, Denzel Curry, Niki Randa, and more! Emerging from the rapidly growing beat music scene in the mid-2000s, with Los Angeles as its epicenter, Flying Lotus has shaped an era with his new sound that fuses jazz, hip hop, and electronic music. He runs his own music label, Brainfeeder, which has produced superstars such as Thundercat and Kamasi Washington, and together with Kendrick Lamar, the late Mac Miller, and Childish Gambino (Donald Glover), he has pushed cutting-edge sounds into the mainstream. At the same time, he continues to inspire music and culture fans through music videos produced with his unique aesthetic sense and video projects such as the highly experimental horror-comedy film 'KUSO'. Flying Lotus is composing the music for the Netflix original anime series "Yasuke," and it has been decided that the music will be released as a standalone work. LeSean Thomas is in charge of the original concept, production, and direction, MAPPA, which has received high praise both domestically and internationally for works such as "Dorohedoro," "Attack on Titan The Final Season," and "Jujutsu Kaisen," is in charge of animation production, and Takeshi Koike ("LUPIN the Third - The Woman Called Fujiko Mine -") is in charge of character design. With the exception of a few tracks that have been released in advance, such as "Black Gold feat. Thundercat" and "Between Memories feat. Niki Randa," the album "YASUKE" is composed almost entirely of instrumental music. Thundercat not only provides vocals for the opening theme, but also showcases his outstanding bass playing throughout the album. One of the defining features of this album is the hybrid drum patterns that blend traditional Japanese percussion instruments like taiko drums and hyoshigi clappers with African percussion instruments like djembes, seemingly expressing the life of Yasuke, an African-Japanese man who lived during the Sengoku period. However, the beat production and structure are reminiscent of his earlier styles, such as 'Reset EP', 'Los Angeles', and 'Cosmogramma'. He also reveals that J Dilla influenced his approach, which incorporates a unique atmosphere created by synthesizers.
