Edinburgh-based producer Barry Can't Swim, known for his fusion of digital production and organic music, has released his new album, "Loner," on Ninja Tune. Throughout "Loner," Barry Can't Swim explores and investigates the world he finds himself in. This album is a deeply personal work that poses profound questions to both himself and his listeners. While born from overwhelmingly successful live performances and numerous accolades worldwide, "Loner" remains rooted in his origins. It demonstrates his grounded stance as an individual while simultaneously showcasing his ever-evolving artistry. Barry commented on "Loner," saying, "If my first album was a collage of the music I loved and was influenced by growing up, then this album is my most authentic work, a true expression of myself and my life over the past year." The previously released "The Person You'd Like To Be" is the opening track of "Loner." Other tracks include "Still Riding," which samples vocals by Kali Uchis, the disco-influenced "Chosen," and "About To Begin," which exudes the transcendent power of club music. There are also moments that defy expectations, such as the nostalgic and emotional tracks "Cars Pass By Like Childhood Sweethearts" and "Marriage." This album is released after a period of remarkable progress over the past year and a half. In this short time, Barry has rapidly risen to become one of the most talked-about electronic artists in the world. His debut album, "When Will We Land?", released in October 2023 on Ninja Tune, was nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize alongside artists such as Charli XCX, Beth Gibbons, English Teacher, Getz, and The Last Dinner Party. As an electronic artist, Barry is a rare case of being nominated for the Mercury Prize, alongside Aphex Twin, Nia Archives, Burial, Jamie XX, Fred Again, and Jon Hopkins. Barry's meteoric rise continues, with every headline performance he has given to date selling out. In particular, tickets for his three shows at London's Brixton Academy in November 2024 sold out in just two hours, with 15,000 tickets going out. Other live highlights include his stunning performance at last year's Glastonbury Festival, which drew the largest audience in Park Stage history, and his captivating performance at Coachella. And this summer, it has been announced that he will finally be making his first appearance in Japan at Fuji Rock Festival '25. 01. The Person You?fd Like To Be02. Different03. Kimpton04.
