Bruno Major, the popular singer-songwriter praised by Billie Eilish and BTS, has released his latest album, "Columbo," his first in three years since his previous album, "To Let A Good Thing Die"! This 12-track album (the Japanese CD version includes two bonus tracks) blends autobiographical songs written from a subjective perspective with songs written from an objective perspective, further expanding Bruno's range of expression and resulting in his most complete and "honest" work to date. The soulful and romantic pop sound of his previous work shines even brighter, and in the lead single and album title track, "Columbo," the poignant and melancholic melody, combined with Bruno's elegant vocals and simple guitar melody, evokes the atmosphere of the American Songbook. This song, which shows the influence of Paul Simon, is characterized by complex guitar phrases and poignant vocals, with layers upon layers of harmonies building to a climax. Despite its spring-like sound, the lyrics express themes of love, loss, and freedom. Other highlights include "The Show Must Go On," with its vibrant piano intro, clean drum pattern without a snare, and crystal-clear guitar tones reminiscent of Neil Young's "Out on the Weekend." "Tell Her" showcases a meltingly smooth R&B sound, while "Tears in Rain," from the latter half of the album, is dedicated to his late grandmother. The album closes with "The End," featuring a magnificent guitar solo that shows the influence of his beloved Queen and, above all, evokes Brian May. For Bruno Major, the album "Columbo" is his most perfect expression of his artistry to date. The domestic CD release includes lyric translations and liner notes, and will be released earlier with bonus tracks.
