Bibio, who captivates listeners with his unique sound across various musical styles, releases his landmark 10th album, "BIB10," from WARP RECORDS. "I like the contrast between albums. When I finish one album, I want to do something different with the next," says Stephen Wilkinson, aka Bibio. Through the creation of his previous albums, he has gracefully soared through electronica, ambient, folk, pop, indie, funk, soul, and every other sound he decides to explore. His 2019 album, "Ribbons," is described by him as an "organic and woody sound" with a "psychedelic folk" atmosphere, but for this album, he decided from the early stages of production to use a sound that heavily utilizes synthesizers, drum machines, and electric guitars. As a result, the album has perfected a unique sound that only Bibio could create, encompassing heavy grooves, hypnotic, swirling guitar loops, lighthearted funk beats, silky smooth disco tones, and a nuanced exploration of soulful textures. His woven tones are rich and deep, resonant, and evoke a radiating warmth. One track that clearly exemplifies this is the opening track, "Off Goes the Light," in which Wilkinson's outstanding vocals beautifully blend with the interwoven guitar melody and immersive synth soundscape. On the other hand, "Potion" is clearly influenced by Prince, pushing the boundaries of vocal range to a higher level and more innovative extent (his self-titled second album was particularly influenced by Prince's albums). In short, it's not just the vocal range, but the overall feeling that creates a futuristic electronic funk sound. At first listen, this album might seem like Bibio's most electronic work, but the presence of the guitar is clearly felt at its foundation. The domestic CD release includes liner notes, lyrics translations, and bonus tracks.
