The majestic horse of Texas hard rock is unleashed! The legendary album \"Stud,\" pressed in only 200 copies in 1975 and hailed as the \"holy grail\" by collectors worldwide, is finally getting a long-awaited new reissue! Formed in Houston in 1974, they rehearsed while performing live locally, building their own unique style while being influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin. Their only album, \"Stud,\" was recorded at a studio owned by The Barons in Rosenberg, Texas, and released on their subsidiary label, \"Baron Records.\" This album combines a hard sound fueled by youthful energy with a fearless experimental spirit. Dr. Timothy Williams, then 17 years old, delivers a cutting lead guitar performance, while Paul David's Rickenbacker bass and organ provide the foundation, depth, and color of the band's music. George Randell's impenetrable drumming is also powerful, and the trio combines solid Texas rock with progressive elements. From exhilarating hard rock tracks like \"Woman Like You\" (M1), with its relentlessly heavy riffs, beats, and shouts, to the blistering \"Captain Boogie\" (M2), the band's individuality is further highlighted by two long tracks, each around 12 minutes long: \"Stud\" (M3), where persistent heavy riffs, death throes, and progressive jams clash; and \"The War Song\" (M5), a lyrical number lamenting a world heading in the wrong direction. Adding \"Jim \/ Blues\" (M4), a superb blend of gritty hard blues and acoustic guitar, the five-track album is full of excitement and thrills. Baron Records recognized their talent, covered the recording costs, and pressed 200 LPs. Although the album received airplay on radio stations around Houston, they failed to secure a contract with a major record label. The LP was never repressed, and it remained unavailable even to rock collectors in Texas. In 2015, it was reissued by Outsider, a sub-label of the Spanish rare record reissue label Guer?en Records, and its high quality surprised connoisseurs and collectors. For the next 10 years, even the reissue remained difficult to obtain. But in 2025, the long-awaited Japanese CD release finally arrived! It comes with a booklet containing liner notes reflecting on that time by Paul and numerous rare live photos. The time has come to paint Japan with Texas colors! *This is a different band from the British band of the same name from the 1970s. Media Reviews and More: The Texas hard rock maestro is unleashed!
