This live album, previously only available digitally, features footage from a 2020 performance by Grey Area, the band led by Terrace Martin, and is now finally available physically! It includes a superb jazz cover of Kendrick Lamar's classic \"For Free?\" and a fantastic jam session exceeding 20 minutes featuring guest appearances by Kamasi Washington, showcasing some of the finest live performances in contemporary jazz! Terrace Martin, who has been tirelessly promoting modern jazz through numerous projects such as R+R=Now with Robert Glasper, and Dinner Party (featuring Glasper, Kamasi Washington, and even 9th Wonder), formed Grey Area as his own band. To introduce the band, their live performance at the JammJam event hosted by Jammcard in 2020 was recorded and released as a digital-only album, \"Live at the JammJam,\" which is now finally being released on CD and vinyl!!! Grey Area is a band featuring key figures in the jazz world, led by Terrace Martin, Joshua Crumbly, a young and important bassist who has worked with Kendrick Scott and Kamasi Washington and has also released his own leader albums, keyboardist Paul Cornish, who is also a band member of the pop unit Knower, consisting of Louis Cole and Genevieve Altadi, and Ronald Bruner Jr., Thundercat's brother, who has honed his skills as a drummer for Prince and Kamasi Washington. So what was the content of this intriguing live performance? After a two-minute intro, they suddenly launched into \"For Free?\" and exploded with energy. As the title suggests, this is a jazz cover of the classic \"For Free?\" from Kendrick Lamar's masterpiece \"To Pimp a Buttery,\" which Terrace Martin himself produced, and he delivers an incredibly passionate performance lasting over 8 minutes. In between, he interjects the sweet ballad \"Great Is Thy Faithfulness,\" which puts his keyboard solo to the forefront, and then on \"Juno\" and \"Stop Trippin',\" two tracks featuring Terrace's close friend Kamasi Washington as a guest, they engage in heated jam sessions that each last nearly 20 minutes. This is truly a superb live album that perfectly captures 120% of the charm of live jazz!
