Completed a Master's program in Conducting at the New England Conservatory in 1995. Studied under Seiji Ozawa as a fellow of the Tanglewood Music Festival's conducting department, and later studied under Leopold Hager and Yuji Yuasa at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. In July 1996, won the top prize at the \"2nd International Competition for Young Conductors\" held in Lisbon, Portugal. In May 1998, he won the prestigious 12th Nicolai Malko International Conducting Competition (Copenhagen), attracting worldwide attention. In August of the same year, he participated in the 10th Affinis Summer Music Festival (Tokyo) as an assistant to conductors Takashi Asahina and M. Rostropovich. For three years from 1998, he was invited to the Pacific Music Festival (Sapporo, held every July), an international educational music festival founded by Bernstein, where he supported conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Michael Tilson Thomas, Myung-Whun Chung, Yutaka Sado, Chen Wen-Ping, and Tan Dun, and also conducted the PMF Orchestra and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. In June 2000, he guest conducted the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra's regular concert, and in March 2001, he guest conducted a Japanese-Korean co-production opera at the Korean National Theater. In January 2003 and December 2004, he achieved great success as a guest conductor with the Orchestre Lamoureux of Paris, performing in sold-out concerts at the Th??tre des Champs-?lys?es (Paris). In December, he conducted the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra's China tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China. Domestically, he became the principal conductor of the Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra in April 2003. He has made numerous guest appearances with major orchestras in Japan, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, and is attracting considerable attention as one of the most talented young conductors. Following his debut CDs released in the summer of 2003, which included Beethoven's Symphonies No. 2 and 7, and Symphony No. 3 \"Eroica\" and the Coriolan Overture, his third CD, \"Beethoven Symphony No. 5 \"Fate\" \/ Egmont Overture,\" was released in August 2004 (Warner Classics).
