The strength of their ensemble was proven during their one and only performance in Japan, which has become legendary. They also have an exceptional nose for new music, having been the first to discover Defheaven and paved the way for their breakthrough. Bassist Brian Cook is also a member of the cutting-edge heavy rock band Sumack. Like their previous album, this one was recorded by Kurt Ballou (Converge), but for the first time in their collaboration, the basic tracks were recorded at Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studios in their hometown of Chicago. Overdubs and mixing were done at Kurt's God City. The thick sound and production exude a sense of style. It's also interesting that there are many similarities to the album released earlier by fellow Chicago post-metal band Pelican.
