This album features performances by the \"Golden Trio\"?Oscar Peterson (piano), Ray Brown (bass), and Ed Thigpen (drums)?considered one of the most complete groups in jazz history. Recorded during a two-week run at Baker's Keyboard Lounge, a legendary jazz club in Detroit, this recording showcases their extraordinary technique and flawless ensemble playing that remains unwavering at any tempo or complex phrase. From intense uptempo pieces to lyrical ballads, this album encapsulates the elegant swing that embodies Peterson's \"will to swing,\" as once described by pianist Roger Kellaway. The setting for this album is Baker's Keyboard Lounge, located on historic Riverova Boulevard in Detroit and known as one of the world's oldest jazz clubs. In 1960, in Detroit, a thriving cultural hub, this intimate club with only 99 seats was a mecca for jazz. Peterson himself performed there 18 times between 1957 and 1972, demonstrating his deep affection for the place and its audience. After decades of lying dormant in the Verve Records warehouse due to a mislabeling, the tapes were discovered and finally saw the light of day. The album includes \"Sporgin',\" a 1929 standard, but no recording of Peterson performing this song has been confirmed until now. It is a valuable track that captures the passionate performance of the trio at their peak. Overseas, a \"Standard Version (1LP\/1CD)\" containing selected tracks from the five sets performed that night and a \"Complete Recordings (3LP)\" containing all five sets in performance order will be released. This release is a special 2-disc SHM-CD set of \"Complete Recordings,\" a Japan-exclusive release. This release is of extremely high documentary value, as it includes detailed liner notes by Detroit jazz historian Mark Stryker. Media reviews and other information include previously unreleased live recordings of Oscar Peterson, one of the greatest pianists in jazz history.
