The recording began with two songs about their hometown of Liverpool, \"Strawberry Fields Forever\" and \"Penny Lane,\" and heavily incorporated horns and strings. Psychedelic elements such as reverse playback and tape loops, which were introduced in the previous album \"Revolver,\" were also incorporated, resulting in a sound image completely different from their previous rock. Then, by combining separate songs by John and Paul, the magnificent track \"A Day in the Life\" was born, and the album evolved into a \"concept album.\" Having decided to retire from live performances that summer, the Beatles reduced their media appearances, grew beards during that time, and lived as if they were shed their Beatles image. With the new album also conceived as a \"pseudo-live show performed by a fictional band,\" their creative power was further spurred. As a result, \"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,\" produced from November to April of the following year, 1967, became a masterpiece that would be etched in history as an unprecedented and innovative rock landmark in both sound and songwriting. Now, Volume 8 is here, thoroughly covering that fulfilling five months of studio work in chronological order.
