This is the fourth volume of the project to collect all of The Rolling Stones' recordings. In June 1964, after completing the thrilling Chess Studios recording during their first US tour, and having grown significantly through their interactions with Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry, the Stones returned home and recorded \"Time Is On My Side\" (reaching No. 6 in the US in September). This is version 1 with the organ intro. Then, following A. Oldham's strategy, Mick sang The Beach Boys' \"I Get Around\" while writing the masterpiece \"Heart of Stone,\" but perhaps not yet convinced, it was treated as a song provided to other singers, with Jimmy Page and others playing and Mick recording a demo vocal. There are also two versions of \"Blue Turns to Grey\": a demo for distribution and a version for the Stones. Mick's version of \"Da Doo Ron Ron\" is for the Andrew Oldham Orchestra. It was during this period that numerous demo recordings of songs written for other artists were made, as revealed on 1975's \"Metamorphosis.\" \"Sleepy City,\" \"Each and Everyday of the Year,\" and \"We're Wastin' Time\" are included in these rare alternate versions. While recording for the Stones, Andrew Oldham had Jagger and Richards continue writing songs in parallel, and if he thought a song wasn't suitable for the Stones, he would have other singers sing it and release it. Amidst this Stones development strategy, \"Little Red Rooster,\" featuring Brian's slide guitar and Mick's harmonica, reached number one in the UK. When Michael Faithfull's \"As Tears Go By,\" released in August, became a hit, Keith Richards joined on guitar for their second single, \"Blowin' in the Wind.\" Hits were coming from both the Stones and singers produced by Alain Oldham, and you could feel the growing momentum for the arrival of the Stones' era. This collection covers all Stones-related recordings up to October 1964. The time when the London troublemakers' popularity would explode worldwide was just around the corner.
