The press conference soon turned into a hilarious affair, winning the hearts of the American journalists. Then came the recording of \"The Ed Sullivan Show\" on February 9th in the afternoon, and the live broadcast that evening which had a viewership rating of over 70 percent. As the Beatles phenomenon swept across the United States, on February 11th, they held their first concert at the Washington Coliseum. The concert opened with George Harrison singing \"Beat Beethoven\" as jellybeans rained down from the audience. Ringo Starr, in particular, was in top form on drums. This passionate performance, arguably the best in the history of Beatles live shows, prompted shouts from John and Paul. On a 360-degree stage surrounded by the audience, the Beatles moved their amplifiers themselves as they continued to play. Amidst the cheers and shouts, they seemed to think, \"We're used to this, we've been through so much. This is like a big Star Club,\" and continued to groove to the music as usual during the 35-minute show. Surrounded by 8,092 spectators, their passionate performance, reminiscent of their Cavern Club days, was truly moving. Then, from snowy New York, they flew to perpetually sunny Miami on the 16th for a live performance on \"The Ed Sullivan Show.\" The footage included camera checks with an audience, rehearsal performances, and the live broadcast of the actual show. Thus, their two-week US tour ended in great success. Soon, the news would spread all over the world. This 2-CD set thoroughly covers live recordings from the Beatles' first US tour.
