[First Press Limited Edition Digipak] The fourth installment of Eternal Grooves' popular series deciphering all of the Beatles' session recordings covers the sessions from the Fall 1964 single \"I Feel Fine,\" released prior to \"Beatles for Sale,\" to the recording sessions for the 1965 album \"Help!\". After their US tour, they recorded the B-side single \"She's a Woman\" on October 8, 1964 (included in the previous release EGDR-0021), and just 10 days later, on October 18, they tackled \"I Feel Fine.\" John came up with this impressive guitar riff on October 6th. He decided to use the accidental guitar feedback sound in the intro, and from Take 1, you can hear him already artificially creating the feedback and starting the recording. Surprisingly, unlike the official version, the vocal key is A. After Take 1, in which John sings in a somewhat growling style (which is also cool!), he decides to lower the key by one tone, and Take 2 begins. Up to Take 5, John's single-track vocals are captured with astonishing clarity, without any reverb processing, which is overwhelming. In the following year, 1965, recording of the single \"Ticket to Ride\" began, and plenty of recording takes of \"Yes It Is,\" intended for the B-side, from February 16th have been unearthed. John sings a temporary vocal while playing a J-160E, with George following along with volume pedal techniques. John switches to a classical guitar midway through, and they build up takes of this beautiful song to complete it. Then there's \"That Means a Lot,\" a song destined to be left off the album, but here we can hear them trying out various arrangements. Apparently dissatisfied with any of them, Paul says, \"Let's do a test run!\" and the session tape ends with them attempting a vaudeville-style arrangement, almost out of desperation. Then there's \"Help!\" from April 13th, where we can hear them trying multiple times from take 1 to take 12. Takes 1 and 2 are immediately stopped because George's fast arpeggios are difficult. We can hear George saying, \"It's too fast,\" and in take 5 they play at a slower tempo. Take 5 is completed without vocals, and the magnificent arrangement for the ending is already decided, suggesting that thorough rehearsals had taken place beforehand. This is the dense studio work left behind by the Beatles. Recorded in master quality from existing session tapes.
