Disc 1 includes Take 1 from the first day of the session, February 17, 1966. The chord progression to the memorable chorus, \"Good, Good, Good Vibrations,\" has not yet been created. Brian Wilson gives instructions to the Wrecking Crew (studio musicians), and the session progresses, with the chord progression for the chorus finally appearing after Take 28. The Beach Boys members have not yet appeared, and they are simply recording backing tracks repeatedly. By March 3, the chord progression for the development section is complete, and Brian Wilson has recorded a demo vocal. However, on April 9th, they slowed down the tempo and started re-recording everything from scratch. The fourth development section, designated as Part D (details are shown in the liner notes' structure diagram), was still missing, and the session recorded on tape shows Brian going through trial and error trying to figure out how to connect it to the final section. He gives Hal Blaine detailed instructions on drum fill phrases, and then, seemingly on a whim, he comes up with a section that continues for eight bars with just one F chord (with an F7 in between), and Brian himself shouts from the console, \"What a beautiful take!\" He also tries out the discarded chorus \"Hambi Nan\" section along the way, and after going through various processes, he arrives at the final structure of \"Parts A?�NB?�NA?�NB?�NC?�ND?�NE?�NF,\" all traced through the sound in this whirlwind 277 minutes, 4 hours and 37 minutes of sessions.
