Dopamine Chamber [Bonus Track] (XL1673CDJP) Japan Music CD

Product Description
Irish heroes Fontaines D.C., who are captivating the world, release their 5th album, 'Dopamine Chamber'! ! "This album itself is a 'dopamine chamber.' When you step into it, we're testing you with music that changes your mental state and mood in various ways." - Grian Chatten (vocals) Irish heroes Fontaines D.C., who are captivating the world, release their 5th album, 'Dopamine Chamber', from XL Recordings! ! Their 2024 album, 'Romance', received perfect scores from The Guardian, NME, Rolling Stone UK, and others, garnering praise from around the world. It debuted at number 2 on the UK, Irish, Scottish, and Dutch charts, and was nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 67th Grammy Awards that same year. Their Japan tour in support of the album was also a great success. 'Dopamine Chamber' was produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Gorillaz, Depeche Mode), just like its predecessor. This album follows 'Romance', released in 2024 and certified platinum in the UK, and shows the band moving decisively away from the guitar-driven expression of their early works, towards a colder, stranger, and more artificial sound. "Marianne," a glamorous and uplifting introduction to the album's world, is partly inspired by the 8-episode thriller miniseries 'The Talented Mr. Ripley', which was released on Netflix in 2024 and based on Patricia Highsmith's 'Purple Noon'. The song is themed on escapism and hedonism, and functions as a song of temptation to move towards or escape from oblivion. Wrapped in a dazzling arrangement, Grian Chatten sings: "You should come and spend this year here / Follow me / I can make you disappear." But beneath that alluring sound lies a heavier question. If living with a full awareness of impending doom is the only option, how will people willingly surrender their imagination? Dopamine Chamber emerges like a constellation rising beyond the swirling breath of smog. Powerful ballads and anthemic melodies shimmer amidst the enveloping mist. In a world leaning towards collapse, this album questions how pleasure transforms in times of crisis, and what is revealed when we pursue pleasure. Throughout the album, Grian Chatten (vocals), Carlos O'Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan (bass), and Tom Cole (drums) of Fontaines D.C. oscillate between contentment and terror. The way these two elements eventually merge reflects the overwhelming chaos brought about by AI spreading on the same algorithms as memes, jokes, and celebrity culture, environmental collapse, and political violence. While "Romance" maintained a balance of tension, this work disrupts that balance. Chatten, who spent time in the faded splendor of Venice, Vienna, and Sicily in search of lyrical inspiration, says: "I think 'Romance' was probably 60% human and 40% eroded by automation and the loss of emotion. But this time, I feel like 60% is being eroded. It's like the mask is becoming more and more like the face itself." He refused to succumb to easy optimism. "We thought it would be more powerful to deliberately exclude hope and honestly reflect the ugliness of this world. This work needed to feel like a more catastrophic warning," and bassist Conor Deegan adds... "Our albums have always been about the sense of 'place.' First about Dublin, then about leaving Dublin, and then about finding romance somewhere else. With this album, that question became, 'Where do people run to?'" That escape might be oneself. Or it might be hedonism, fantasy, perfection through beauty, eternal youth, or beyond a screen that is never-ending and constantly being updated. Fontaines D.C. has never repeated themselves across their five albums. From 'Dogrel' (2019) to 'A Hero's Death' (2020), the UK chart-topping 'Skinty Fia' (2022), and the chaotic, kaleidoscopic 'Romance' (2024), they have always been evolving. 'Dopamine Chamber' represents their most audacious transformation to date. Cold synthesizer tones, marching drums, the use of samples and triggers, songs completely devoid of guitar, and even the euphoric strings reminiscent of 1960s Italian pop are transformed into a new sound with an artificial texture. For guitarist Conor Curley, the aim of this album was to break away from the band's past reference points. "I was trying to find something that would point to the future." The album was created with James Ford in London, the English countryside, and Palermo. Chatten recorded his vocals in a makeshift recording booth made from stacked mattresses and cushions.
