Cameron Picton, a member of Black Midi, has released his self-titled debut album with his new band, My New Band Believe! Cameron Picton, bassist and occasional frontman of Black Midi, has released his debut album, \"My New Band Believe,\" on Rough Trade Records. The album was produced by Cameron, Jasper Hjewelin of Caroline, and Mike O'Malley. My New Band Believe's debut album began in a feverish, dreamlike state. In a hotel room in China, Cameron Picton, suffering from a sudden illness, had strange images and jumbled fragments of words flashing through his mind one after another. He later picked up some of those fragments and shaped them into songs, but the one that stuck with him the most was the mysterious phrase, \"My New Band Believe.\" Cameron, the bassist and sometimes frontman of Black Midi, had, together with his bandmates, practiced building a musical world of explosive scale, weaving complex narratives into the thrilling developments created by controlled chaos. When the group disbanded in 2023, Cameron didn't immediately feel the need to make a solo album or jump into another band. He wasn't exactly a member of the team, nor was he the bandleader?it was in this ambiguous position that he entered the studio, and soon the seed of \"My New Band Believe\" slowly began to sprout. Like Cameron's work from his Black Midi days, \"My New Band Believe\" is grand and magnificent, but its sound has a light, gliding feel rather than a scorching heat. The record is almost entirely acoustic, with reverb and electronic effects kept to a minimum. However, it would be a mistake to think that this restrained approach diminishes the maximalism of the music. Rather, the clarity of the sound image further accentuates the dynamism. Cameron leads the band as if soaring with a full string section behind him, and each song takes shape, disperses, and then reunites. The exhilaration of one song collides head-on with the torrent of the next. The lead single, \"Numerology,\" is utterly ready to dance. Over this driving instrumental dance music, Cameron embraces chance and risk, measuring the possibility of collapse while surrendering to the thrill of play and danger. Their debut album is a massive, hallucinatory record. With a wide emotional and thematic range, it is a collection of music that unravels the endlessly captivating threads of the logic of dreams. Cameron is an unreliable narrator, yet he possesses a charismatic presence. Along with star-studded musicians like Kiran Leonard, Caius Williams, Steve Noble, and Andrew Cheatham, he guides the listener into the band's uniquely evolving multiverses. In My New Band Believe, he not only establishes himself as a solid bandleader, but also weaves together contradictory, fragmented, and even hysterical ideas, culminating in a completely new and striking meaning. \u003ccd tracklist\u003e 01.
