The masterpiece released in 1982 is revived in full remaster. Rough Trade Records is releasing a remastered reissue of Scritti Politti's debut album and masterpiece, 'Songs To Remember'. 'Songs To Remember', the debut work by this highly acclaimed and influential British band, is a return to Scritti Politti's roots. Emerging from the DIY indie scene of London's Camden in the late 70s, and boasting a musical vision comparable to that of Miles Davis, with whom they would later actually collaborate, this group, led by Green Gartside, established their position as true innovators of the early 80s with this album. Their sound, a unique fusion of philosophical contemplation and budding pop sensibilities, was one of a kind. Released in 1982 and praised by NME as \"witty and original,\" this album has since established itself as a landmark masterpiece. For this reissue, Alex Wharton fully remastered the audio at Abbey Road Studios. Under the supervision of Green Gartside himself, a long-awaited vinyl repress has also been realized. Originally released in September 1982 under catalog number ROUGH20, the album reached a peak of number 12 on the UK Albums Chart and includes hits such as \"The Sweetest Girl,\" \"Faithless,\" and \"Jacques Derrida.\" In addition to being released in digital and CD formats, it will finally be available again on vinyl, in specifications faithful to the original 1982 release. The format for this release will feature an embossed sleeve with a bee pictogram on the corner of the front of the jacket. Mark E. Smith, who was an artist at Rough Trade Records at the time, once told me this: \"Scritti Politti has one of the best rhythm sections in rock music,\" he said. He didn't mention Green Gartside by name, so I don't know what he thought of him. But all of us at Rough Trade Records were completely captivated by Green's honey-sweet vocals and his brilliant lyric writing. Those were truly passionate times, and we were simply overwhelmed by the sheer number of talents gathering at Rough Trade Records. Among them, Green stood out in particular. He was someone who challenged the established forms of pop music head-on, armed with his intellect. I still vividly remember how proud we were of 'Songs To Remember' at a time when releasing a full album to the world was still a relatively new experience for us. - Jeff Travis (Rough Trade Records) This album should be considered one of the most important in music history, as it bridged two long-separated realms?pop and philosophy. - Pop Matters Boldly incorporating sophisticated and theoretical elements like Derrida and digital dancehall into the pop format... There are few examples of such a brilliant fusion of lovers rock and French philosophical intellect. - MOJO The Scritti Politti style from their debut?unexpected fusion of vocoder and gospel, beautifully wavering melodies, lighthearted humor, and rich imagination... This album remains as timeless as it was in 1982. 'Songs to Remember' is, as the title suggests, a memorable and highly accomplished album. - Q Magazine Green Gartside still possesses one of the most beautiful voices in British rock. - The Times A pop star like Green Gartside will never appear again. - NME \u003ctracklist\u003e 01.
