The latest album from Horsegirl, the most promising band in the new rock scene! Horsegirl, the new generation of US alternative band consisting of Nora Chen (g\/vo), Penelope Lowenstein (g\/vo), and Gigi Reese (ds), who captivated all indie music fans with their shocking debut album \"Versions of Modern Performance\" released in 2022 on Matador Records, have released their new album \"Phonetics On and On\". Produced by Kate Le Bon, who has also worked on Wilco's latest album \"Cousin\" and Deerhunter, and recorded at the band's home ground, The Loft in Chicago, this single, the fourth track on the album, is a fantastic example of the experimental approach taken on the album. Horsegirl unfolds a Raincoats-esque violin section and dynamic percussion, gradually increasing in speed and building to a dizzying, motor-like crescendo. Much of the track was produced in the studio, \"2468\" is a testament to the rewriting, restructuring, additions, deletions, moments of instability, and the acceptance of unexpected results. The music video was directed by writer and filmmaker Eliza Callahan and choreographed by Alexa West. Horsegirl, who released only one single in 2020, \"Ballroom Dance Scene,\" has already secured a contract with the prestigious Matador Records, home to Yo La Tengo, whom they themselves are fans of. Described by NME as \"captivating from the first note to the last,\" their 2022 album *Versions of Modern Performance*, produced at the late Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio with John Agnello (who has worked with Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, and Kurt Vile) as co-producer, has brought many changes to the band. That fall, they moved to New York City, with Penelope and Nora attending New York University. This meant they were creating music outside of Penelope's family's basement for the first time. While their new environment seems to be propelling them in a new direction, this period of unparalleled change has led the band to a more introspective direction. In January 2024, Horsegirl returned to Chicago for recording, where they rediscovered the concentration and intimacy that can only be found in the studio when it's simply too cold to go outside. Cate Le Bon guided them into a new, bright, and clear sonic realm, highlighting the originality of these songs. Violin, synthesizers, and gamelan are woven into the album, and these new instruments breathe life into their sonic world. These songs are the result of experimentation with space and texture, while remaining at the core of pop songs. At the same time, a confident simplicity brings to the forefront their songwriting abilities. These songs could never have been written by anyone other than these three. Horsegirl sings with unexpected honesty, evoking scenes from girlhood and adolescence. These are moments from their lives. The undeniable truth is that Horsegirl is a band of best friends. When you interact with them, you can see the love in their eyes, and it is always a joy to see. That love resonates throughout the recording process, and can always be felt in \"Phonetics On and On,\" which explores the boundaries between pop, minimalism, and playful experimentation. \u003ctracklist\u003e 01.
