This album, her first since 2016's masterpiece 'HOPELESSNESS', is described as a painful yet inspiring, joyful, and intimate creation, a new response to and interpretation of the world as she sees it. \"I was thinking a lot about Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On.' That was a very important benchmark for me. Some tracks on the album are a contemporary response to the concerns about the planet and the environment that were first raised in popular music over 50 years ago,\" Anohni says of the album. In 2022, Anohni began working with Jimmy Hogarth (Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Tina Turner), drawn to her sensitivity to soul music. For Anohni, who had previously handled songwriting and production on albums under the Johnsons' name, this kind of collaboration was a first. Anohni brought in a notebook full of lyric ideas and created a series of demo tracks to accompany Hogarth's guitar and her own piano. Hogarth then formed a studio band including Leo Abrahams, Chris Vatalaro, Sam Dixon, and string arranger Rob Moose, and the album was recorded. Hogarth's intuitive guitar leads the listener through 10 tracks, touching on elements of American soul, British folk, and experimental music. There is a great tenderness, melody, and dissonance coexisting within it. By giving shape to a wide range of themes, it expresses the state of the world today. Through her personal lens, Anohni addresses a variety of themes, including the loss of loved ones, inequality, alienation, acceptance, cruelty, environmental destruction, the devastating consequences of Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, the three religions that claim to be descendants of the God of the biblical prophet Abraham), futuristic feminism, and the intention that we may still be able to change our way of thinking, our spirituality, our social structures, and our relationship with nature. The Japanese CD edition includes a booklet with lyrics translations and liner notes, and features bonus tracks.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53227109417269,"sku":"4582616190628","price":4100.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1011\/5966\/5973\/files\/514LTc9x9TL._AC.jpg?v=1785378004","url":"https:\/\/tokyojapancdshop.com\/products\/4582616190628","provider":"TOKYO JAPAN CD SHOP","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
