Four years after the shocking comeback of The Microphones, and a full five years since Mount Ealy's last new release, this is a massive double album with 26 tracks. Mount Ealy\/Phil Elverum received overwhelming acclaim for his consecutive releases of the ultimate singer-songwriter series 'A Crow Looked At Me' (2017) \u0026amp; 'Now Only' (2018), followed by the sequel 'Lost Wisdom pt.2' (2019) with Julie Dowaron. Then, in 2020, he suddenly released 'Microphones in 2020', a massive 44-minute and 44-second track, the first new release in 18 years from The Microphones, his project name before Mount Ealy. Following the critically acclaimed and shocking reception of the album, Elvram took a break from creative activities to focus on his new life on the island where he had moved from his hometown of Anacortes. However, in December 2022, he wrote a new song, \"Huge Fire\" (also included on this album), for the 20th-anniversary compilation \"COLORS\" by 7e.p., a label he has been working with since its founding, and released it on New Year's Eve of that year. From there, he entered an explosive creative mode, resulting in this double album masterpiece. The album was created by returning to completely analog recording and mixing. Beginning with the title track, which is based on a poem by Joanne Keiger used for the cover of \"A Crow Looked At Me,\" the album ranges from the less than one-minute M4 featuring the roar of his beloved daughter to the 12-minute short-story-like M25. The 26 tracks are diverse in length and style, featuring insightful lyrics and stimulating soundscapes, including ambience and rhythms influenced by Japanese gagaku, beautiful folk, noise, drone, and surprisingly straightforward and refreshing indie rock.
