This is the new album, \"Atlas of Green.\" Raised on the Wirral Peninsula in northwest England, Andrew PM Hunt spent his childhood surrounded by Stone Age landmarks and rock sculptures that breathe legend into the landscape. While staying at the Bitstone Artistic Research Centre in Birkenhead, on the peninsula, he began his journey for \"Atlas of Green\" by experimenting with tape loops and exploring the center's science fiction library alongside the exhibited sculptures. There, he also encountered the works of Federico Campagna, an Italian philosopher who believes the world is coming to an end. This gave Hunt the impetus to explore how the structures and illusions of the present era carry over to the future of Green, the protagonist of this work (a young musician living in the dawn of a future era, with lost signals and enduring impulses unearthed from the sediment of technology and time), while attempting to unravel the mysteries of the past by creating new forms of mythology using broken electronics and simple acoustic instruments. From this issue of persistence, Hunt decided to inscribe a unique and clear mark (sometimes almost hymn-like ornamentation) on \"Atlas of Green,\" which unfolds within the album's melancholic atmosphere as a new metaphor for how the human spirit overcomes dark days and reclaims lost wisdom. He reflects, \"We are not always on an endless march toward a better world. Our lack of action (against climate and inequality) is sometimes despairing. I find some comfort in the idea that the world may need a new song to tell a new story about itself.\" The image of Green as a young man traveling between eras stemmed from Hunt's growing interest in the fantasy novels of Ursula K. Le Guin and Gene Wolfe, and came about during a time when he was grappling with the question of whether or not to start a family. Green becomes a device for thinking about the future, placing someone in another world and giving them access to a timeframe slightly longer than one's own. In this yet-to-be-discovered world, what would this person do with something as powerful as music? As Hunt points out, \"I imagined them doing what we've always done with music: using music to map emotions, mark boundaries, trace the edges of emotions, define spaces of possibility, and give voice to intuition. This is a future different from a future of endless growth, but one where there is still room for hope and dreams.\" Drawing new folds within the flow of time, 'Atlas of Green' is depicted with an aura of sonic tension born from a process-driven composition. Following a series of live shows in early 2023, this record is a collage of analog electronics and acoustic instruments, including scratched records and broken 4-tracks, collaging live recordings and studio work that feature the ongoing process. While the uncertain energy of \"Under~Between\" (2021) emerged through digital processing, \"Atlas of Green\" embraces serendipitous encounters amidst physical media and glitchy malfunctions. Within these organic, ragged clusters of sound, Dialect rediscovers their inner amateur joy, gently planting new seeds of magical possibilities rooted in the limits and richness of reality. \"As a human planet, we must somehow cope with our finite existence. We must cope with that loss, but we must keep hope in our hearts. Our capacity to love does not depend on things lasting forever. Therefore, this green image is neither a dystopian vision nor a utopia, but an expression of trust and acceptance of limitations.\" Media reviews and more.
