Isik's vocals, infused with the playful spirit of ambient music into folk song form, whisper over field notes of pastoral landscapes, light chamber music, and archival recordings gathered from his intriguing musical life. The 14-track suite of 'Moon in Gemini' blends gentle pastiches, inviting listeners into the deepest possible daydreams! \"I don't mind if the songs on 'Moon in Gemini' take time to reach the listener,\" says Isik. He wanted the title, 'Moon in Gemini,' to reflect the album's dreamy and ethereal nature. \"It was fun to use phrases to express things, time, and place simultaneously,\" he explains. Similarly, and continuing to be so, these tracks contain a diverse range of sonic artifacts, moments, and spaces spanning his rich musical career to date. While much of the album was produced in both home and studio recording environments in Amasya, Turkey, and his current base in Glasgow, additional tracks unearthed from his personal recording archives add a rich texture. The record emerges as a rich space for reconsidering several unreleased tracks and unfinished ideas from the past 15 years of his life and work, including street sounds recorded while growing up in Turkey and sounds recorded while studying music engineering in Miami, Helsinki, and Glasgow. Turning to more recent developments, he wanted to pursue a new, more intimate, vocal-driven sound, building upon some of the methodologies and textures explored in his 2022 album, *in february*. He cites the track \"film festival\" from *Moon in Gemini* as an entry point to that album. There, sample-based arrangements are presented in an asymmetrical context of \"build-up and progression,\" with ambience and vocals intertwined. Drawing inspiration from sometimes misunderstood but iconic singers such as Nina Simone, Aldous Harding, and Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear, Isik experimented with innovative recording and mixing techniques in \"Moon in Gemini,\" aiming to create new space for his voice. Three weeks of recording sessions took place at his aunt's farm in Amasya, and Isik's vocals are front and center in the mix, exhibiting a new expressiveness. As a songwriter, Isik is intuitive and playful, infusing his deep love of literature into his whimsical prose. In a fortunate twist of fate, other unexpected \"themes and connections between tracks blossomed\" during the recording process, resulting in some songs being \"more thematically and lyrically interconnected than on previous records.\" \"Prelude\" and \"Interlude,\" as well as \"Grown One Iota\" and \"After a Rain,\" explore interconnected stories, while \"Almost a Ghost\" and \"Behind the Flowerpots\" were born spontaneously from conversations with Stephanie ?gSpefy?h Roxanne Ward, whose gentle vocals, a highlight of his previous work, are heard again, evoking Isik's sweet dialogue. Exploring new possibilities in composition and songwriting, Isik has pursued a richer sound palette with the soothing tones of live woodwinds and strings. This resulted in collaborations with flutist Tenzin Stephen, harpist Kirstin McCarlie, and clarinetist Giulia Tamborino, enveloping the record in a pastel-tinged, moonlight-filled, and \"more dreamy sound.\" Overflowing with images of nature and lullaby-like melodies, 'Moon in Gemini' is a place to listen to and feel the sounds full of the wonders of everyday life, a state where the poetry is perfectly imperfect, where the unseen takes a step forward, where brave ghosts lie in wait everywhere, and where their play enriches the soul. It is a place where the chirping of birds fills the afternoon sun, carrying us on their wings to the enchanting night. The CD also includes three bonus tracks from the digital EP 'peaches' released last year.
