Presenting a new palette of rich orchestral sounds, this second chapter inspires metaphorical markers that navigate the pathways of life and loss through the ever-changing power of water! Flore Laurentienne is the solo project of Quebec-born composer Mathieu David Gagnon. This project is rooted in the history of botany, named after a catalog documenting the plants of the St. Lawrence Valley where Mathieu was born and raised. Flore Laurentienne's musical vision is illuminated by Johann Sebastian Bach, the master of contrapuntal (a musical composition technique that combines multiple highly independent sounds to create harmonious melodies), who is Mathieu's greatest source of inspiration. Having worked behind the scenes for many years, contributing to other people's projects, Mathieu released his solo debut album, \"Volume I,\" on RVNG Intl. in 2019. This imaginative and inherently ambitious work was recorded using a 15-piece string orchestra and early synthesizers including a Minimoog Model D, EMS Synthi, and combo organ. The album received critical acclaim, being longlisted for the 2020 Polaris Music Awards and nominated for a Juno Award. Now, Flore Laurentienne returns with her second album, \"Volume II,\" presenting a new palette of rich orchestral sounds, inspiring metaphorical markers that navigate the pathways of life and loss through the ever-changing force of water. In this project, Mathieu David Gagnon resumes his voyage through environment and emotion, drawing inspiration from the rivers and rugged wilderness of Quebec, the composer's birthplace. In this second chapter, Mathieu expands upon classical compositional archetypes, encountering a new realm of sonic romanticism. Themes wandering through idyllic and sublime worlds transform into shimmering refractions, conveying the emotion and kinetic power of nature's energy. Volume II forms an estuary where the flow of an auditory microcosm reaches a horizon of dynamic contrast, reflecting the parallel paths of nature and humanity. This project draws inspiration from the rivers of Quebec, and a portion of the proceeds from the album will be donated to the Saint Laurent Action Fund, which promotes the conservation and maintenance of the ecosystem of the St. Lawrence River and its bay. This fund provides funding for projects to conserve, strengthen, and restore the river, as well as for educational and awareness-raising projects concerning issues related to the St. Lawrence River.
