Diatom Deli, whose real name is Delisa Paloma-Sisk, was born and raised in Clarksville, Tennessee, and spent a significant amount of time with her maternal family in Larres, Puerto Rico, an hour north of Nashville. She began learning guitar on her own in her early teens, and later formally studied it in college. The melodies she learned then have stayed with her for a long time and are now reappearing. She gradually began creating music using guitar, synthesizers, and her own voice, recording and releasing two albums as Diatom Deli in 2015 and 2017, \"Feelsounds\" and \"TQM (Te Quiero Mucho).\" Written between 2016 and 2019, \"Time ~ Lapse Nature\" embodies a generous and continuous excavation of Deli's inner emotional spectrum, offering listeners a lush and loving growth. The album was channeled through several synchronicities and collaborative encounters, with the help of Michael Hix (synthesizer, Connective Magic) and Bryan Talbot (engineering, soundscape). Deli's influential process is evident throughout the album's eight tracks. The mood moves like a planet tracing a thick orbit, vulnerability gently radiating in the embers of tone, and upon landing, embracing new sensory frequencies that convey an exhilarating melancholy. \"I cry with all kinds of emotions?exhilaration, sadness, laughter, everything,\" Deli says. With 'Time ~ Lapse Nature,' she wanted a space to express these grand emotions. In this environment, Deli celebrates passing friendships, repurposes creative tranquility, and expresses the inner clarity she has gained in every verse. Each song on this album, imbued with special feelings for loved ones, like \"Sonrisa\" (Spanish for \"Smile\") dedicated to her grandmother, brings a sparkling devotion. The opening track, \"Sunday's Dying Light,\" also begins with numerous voicemails left by her mother. A fragile relationship forms the soil of this work, illuminated by the distortions of gender, misaligned fire, and a calm rainbow. \"Time ~ Lapse Nature\" reveals not only the creation of songs born from surrendering to the process, but also the surrender to the moment and the inevitable opportunities. Throughout the album, field recordings are literally instrumental, playing melodies of life that harmonize with her vocals and guitar. \"I listen to a lot of background noise from everyday life, like children playing in the park, the atmosphere of a bowling alley, the sound of turning pages in a library,\" says Deli. In this work, the beauty of everyday life adorns a vast planet of euphonic loops and psychedelic therapy, accompanying the listener as an enchanting piece like magic hour or snow on a cloudy sky. Deli's clairsentience is something that can be known through sound, and felt more than heard.
