4582561390234
Kate NV Room for the Moon Bonus Tracks Japan Music CD

Product Description
Content Introduction Kate NV, the solo project of Moscow-based eclectic experimental pop artist Kate Shilonosova, presents her long-awaited new album, "Room for the Moon," once again from RVNG Intl.! Based on her roots in 70s and 80s Russian and Japanese pop music, this masterpiece beautifully fuses the pop sensibility of "BINASU" (released on Orange Milk Records) with the ambient, minimal, and new age sounds showcased in "?t?|?e FOR" (released on RVNG)! The lead single, "Sayonara," was selected as Pitchfork's Best New Track! "Room for the Moon," her third album overall, is her first since "?t?|?e FOR" (released in 2018). In fact, she had started working on this album before "?t?|?e FOR," but it didn't take shape until now. Recorded at home and in a Moscow studio, the album was completed with the help of long-time collaborators Jenya Gorbunov (bass), Vladimir Luchanskiy (saxophone), and Quinn Oulton (bass/saxophone), as well as Japanese artist Nami Sato (spoken word), who is also a Red Bull Music Academy alumna and with whom the artist has a close relationship. Heavily influenced by 70s and 80s Russian and Japanese pop music and films, this album beautifully blends the pop sensibility of "BINASU," released on Orange Milk Records, with the ambient, minimal, and new age sounds showcased in "?t?|?e FOR," released on RVNG. It opens with "Not Not Not," where crisp synths and saxophone intertwine with playful synths and light vocals, followed by the pastoral minimal "Du Na," based on synths, mallets, and marimba. "Sayonara," which was selected as Best New Track by Pitchfork and received rave reviews, is a superb synth-pop track that soars upwards, featuring soaring vocals that have been compared to Kate Bush, interwoven with edgy guitar and tapping drums. The lyrics are a mix of English, Japanese, and Russian. The album is full of variety, underpinned by a rich experimental spirit and pop sensibility, including the experimental yet playful "?a Commence Par" with French lyrics, "Plans," which features a saxophone solo created using only samples from Found Sound Nation's "Broken Orchestra" sample pack, "Tea," which borrows a melody from Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, and the uptempo pop song "Telefon," which seems to invite you to a party. They create a fantastical sound that is an eclectic blend of various roots and elements and interpreted in their own unique way, making them a rare presence that evokes and crosses over artists such as Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Akiko Yano, and Ann Steel. A masterpiece born from the further blossoming of her overwhelming talent.
