This album, which prioritizes heaviness and darkness over speed, is a challenge to the thrash scene that has become a tradition. In the latter half of the 2000s, a thrash metal revival occurred. This was the so-called New Wave of Thrash Metal movement. Among them, British band Evil played a central role along with Gama Bomb, Warbringer, and Bonded by Blood. Formed in 1999, they originally played Metallica covers under the name Metal Militia. In 2004, they changed their name to Evil and the demo they produced caught the attention of major British label Earache Records. In 2007, they made their album debut with 'Enter the Grave'. Yearlake was a home to the aforementioned New Wave of Thrash Metal movement, and Evil, along with Gama Bomb and Municipal Waste, attracted a lot of attention as a promising new star in the thrash metal scene. In 2009, they released their second album, \"Infected Nations.\" However, in the same year, tragedy struck when bassist Mike Alexander passed away suddenly at the young age of 32 during a European tour. The band decided to continue, carrying on Mike's legacy. They released two more albums, \"Five Serpent's Teeth\" (2011) and \"Skull\" (2013). However, after that, guitarist Ol Drake left the band, and they remained silent for a while. Ol returned in 2018. Then, after signing with Austrian major label Napalm Records, Evil released their 5th album, \"Hell Unleashed,\" in 2021, their first in eight years. Their return sent fans into a frenzy of excitement. Now, they're releasing their sixth album. Titled \"The Unknown,\" this album is a stark contrast to their previous work, which was the fastest in the band's history, being an incredibly meticulous and dark piece. It prioritizes heaviness over speed, with melodic yet gloomy vocals. Correspondingly, the lyrics are extremely heavy, dealing with themes of depression, loss, and recurring nightmares, making it clear that the band is exploring new territory. Originally starting as a Metallica cover band, \"The Unknown\" strongly evokes the late 80s and 90s Metallica. This album can be seen as a challenge to the scene, which has become a tradition, as if to say, \"Who says thrash metal has to be fast?\" On the other hand, this heaviness and darkness undoubtedly hit the very essence of heavy metal. It's a must-listen, especially for fans of mid-period Metallica. [Members] Ol Drake (Vocals \/ Lead Guitar) Adam Smith (Rhythm Guitar) Joel Graham (Bass) Ben Carter (Drums) [CD Tracklist] 01.
