It's heavy, spacey, and psychedelic. With vocalist Dave Windorff's incredibly cool choices of covers including Pentagram, The Pretty Things, Jerusalem, and Josephus, fans are sure to grin! Monster Magnet is a stoner rock band from New Jersey. Formed in 1989, they were instrumental in making stoner rock a popular genre in the 90s, along with bands like Kyuss and Fu Manchu. Since their debut album \"Spine of God\" in 1991, they have consistently released albums. Monster Magnet has always lived a life of constant touring, but after their European tour in February 2020, they were forced to suspend their live activities. Touring was their life's passion, and after a month of lockdown, they became incredibly bored. However, they're not the type of band to stream rehearsals online. Nor do they have any new songs to record. They felt they could do something more than just passively watch the news about overcrowded hospitals and the number of deaths each day. That's how they came up with the idea of ??a cover album. The \"dystopia! end of the world! revolution!\" atmosphere during the pandemic was similar to that of the late 60s and 70s. Vocalist Dave Windorff loves the music from that era. He always listens to it before shows. So, they decided to create a cover album of heavy rock songs that predate arena rock and heavy metal?music that still retains the flavor of psychedelia and garage punk. None of the songs on this album are well-known hits. From fairly big names like Pentagram and The Pretty Things to tracks that will make any psychedelic fan grin, such as Jerusalem and Josephus, and even more obscure ones, a stream of tracks that will leave you in awe are sure to impress. Dave describes it as a \"playlist from the fourth dimension,\" and that's exactly what it is. Heavy tracks are interspersed with sitar and spacey sound effects, creating a work that evokes nostalgia for the strange yet dreamy era of the 60s and 70s. It undoubtedly showcases Monster Magnet's roots and is also the perfect soundtrack for a world in the midst of a pandemic.
