This fourth album in 10 years from Heathen, led by Lee Altus (also guitarist for Exodus), is a masterpiece that showcases Heathen's signature style more than ever. Guest appearances by Gary Holt and Rick Hunolt. Heathen is one of the leading bands in the Bay Area thrash scene. Their journey has not been smooth. Formed in 1984, they emerged a few years after the first generation of Bay Area bands like Exodus and Metallica, and made their album debut in 1987 with \"Break the Silence.\" 1987, the year after the release of \"Master of Puppets,\" was truly the year that Bay Area thrash blossomed, with Testament and Death Angel also making their album debuts. Heathen's debut album, produced by Ronnie Montrose and featuring a cover of Sweet's \"Set Me Free,\" also became a big topic of conversation. However, while Testament and Death Angel released albums one after another, Heathen suffered trouble when their vocalist, bassist, and drummer left, causing them to stagnate. Eventually, vocalist David White returned, and by the time they released their second album, \"Victims of Deception,\" four years had passed since their debut album. By then, thrash metal was already in decline. Furthermore, the band was struck by misfortune when bassist Randy Lear, who had joined after the release of their second album, died suddenly in a car accident, and they disbanded in despair. After nearly 10 years of silence, Heathen reunited in 2001, spurred on by a charity concert by Chuck Billy and Chuck Schuldiner. Since then, they have occasionally performed live. Then, in 2009, they released their third album, \"The Evolution of Chaos,\" after an 18-year hiatus, delighting their longtime fans. In 2012, they signed with Nuclear Blast Records. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting a new album, but leader Lee Altus is busy as he has also taken over Exodus as Rick Hunolt's replacement. Before they knew it, time had passed. But now, finally, their fourth album, \"Empire of the Blind,\" is being released. \"It takes time to make good wine, doesn't it? It's the same thing,\" says Lee, and the result of this album, which has matured for 10 years, is truly magnificent. As evidenced by their Sweet cover on their debut and Rainbow cover on their second album, their style is to prioritize melody while still possessing a thrashy side. Of course, that remains true to this album as well. The album is dotted with Heathen's signature twin lead guitars and David White's vocals that beautifully sing the melodies. Heathen fans and Bay Area thrash fans alike are sure to be ecstatic. The mixing and mastering were handled by Christopher Harris, also known as Zeus, who is known for his work with Overkill and Crowber, and the sound is perfectly suited to Heathen's style. Guest appearances include Gary Holt of Exodus, former Exodus member Rick Hunolt, and former Heathen member Doug Piercy.
