The arrow fired by the British death\/doom metal heavyweights, My Dying Bride, pierces the soul in this momentous thirteenth album. Formed in 1990, My Dying Bride, along with Paradise Lost and Anathema, has formed the golden triangle of British death\/doom metal. With Andrew Clayhan (guitar) and Aaron Steinthorpe (vocals) at the core of the band, they have earned the trust of fans worldwide with their deeply sinking heaviness. While the other two bands have deviated from their early death\/doom sound, they have stubbornly maintained their pitch-black worldview. Their thirteenth album, \"The Ghost of Orion,\" is a work created amidst suffering. After the release of their previous album, \"Feel the Miserable\" (2015), Aaron's five-year-old daughter was diagnosed with cancer. He was forced to battle a disease he described as \"God's bitter, loveless, and most brutal creation\" (fortunately, he is recovering well). Furthermore, he was hit by the sudden departure of two band members. But the band went through a long, dark tunnel and completed a new album with new members. They left their longtime home, Peaceville Records, and will release it on Nuclear Blast, one of the world's largest metal labels. Aaron says of the new album: \"A rich journey that only My Dying Bride knows how to create. Aggressive and aesthetic, colored with gloomy harmonies like never before. Dramatic developments are brought to life by death metal vocals infused with gut-wrenching madness and rage that give it a terrifying edge.\" The title of the album is taken from the spirit of Orion, the son of the gods who died after being shot with an arrow by the goddess Artemis in Greek mythology. \"Your Broken Shore,\" released as the lead track prior to the album, is one of the new signature songs born from the band's 30-year history, with its breathtaking bass and melancholic strings intertwining. From \"The Solace,\" featuring Verdulna's vocalist Lindy-Fai Hella's hypnotic female chanting, to the dark epics \"The Long Black Land\" and \"The Old Earth,\" each exceeding 10 minutes, the tension never lets up for a single moment. Aaron explains that they \"poured all their passion, power, and unwavering spirit into creating the most thoughtful heavy music,\" and it has paid off brilliantly. Mark Meinette, who has worked with Paradise Lost and Rotting Christ, handled production, engineering, and mixing. The jacket art is by Eliran Kantor, who has worked with Testament, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and SIGH. Simply heavy, intense, and sorrowful. My Dying Bride's dark reign remains unshaken even in the 2020s.
