Dillane was started in 2002 by Matain Westerholt, formerly the keyboard player for Within Temptation. Initially operating as a band, Matain quickly disbanded the band and restarted it as a solo project, releasing his debut album \"Lucidity\" (2006) with numerous guest and session musicians. With Charlotte Wessels, who took on the lead vocals in this work characterized by symphonic\/gothic metal style music, and four new members, Dillane officially started as a band. After energetically performing live, they released their second album, \"April Rain\" (2009). It reached a peak of 14th on the Dutch charts, and their popularity soared. Their third album, \"We Are the Others\" (2012), which featured elegant and flamboyant songs, became a hit, reaching 4th on the Dutch charts, and they established themselves as a popular band. Furthermore, after releasing their 4th album \"Human Contradiction\" (2014), the EP \"Lunar Prelude\" (2016), and their 5th album \"Moonbathers\" (2016), they released the CD\/DVD \"A Decade of Derain ~Live at Paradiso~\" (2017), which was recorded at a live performance held in Amsterdam, their hometown in the Netherlands on December 10, 2016, to commemorate their 10th anniversary, and successfully captivated fans with their gorgeous performance. After that, they released the EP \"Hunter's Moon\" (2019), which contained new studio songs and 10 live tracks from 2017, and now, after about three and a half years, they have appeared with their 6th full album, \"Apocalypse and Chill.\" With female guitarist Merrell Bechtold having left the band, this album was created as a five-piece, and it features songs that beautifully blend gravitas and mystique, with Charlotte's beautiful voice singing the melodies in a truly impressive way. From upbeat numbers like \"We Had Everything\" and \"Chemical Redemption\" to the heavy and aggressive \"Burning Bridges,\" the symphonic \"Vengeance\" incorporating a choir, and the alluring \"The Cleistest Escape,\" every song feels deeper than ever before, resulting in an album that allows listeners to enjoy Delain's unique worldview.
