Their dramatic and melancholic melodic metal has evolved even further. The wailing twin guitars dance brilliantly. Cyra, a Swedish band formed in 2016 by Jake E, who left AMARANTHE, and Jesper Str?mblad, who left IN FLAMES, is essentially a supergroup. The two, who have been friends for many years, were each planning to make solo albums. However, when they met up after a long time and talked about their album concepts, they realized they were aiming for something similar. So, they decided, \"Let's make one together.\" At that time, Jake was still a member of AMARANTHE, but he had been thinking about leaving for quite some time (he sometimes didn't participate in tours), and he asserted that the formation of Cyra was not the direct reason. Nevertheless, Cyra was born. First, Jake introduced Alex Landenberg [ds], who had honed his skills in numerous bands such as ANNHILATOR and LUCA TURILLI'S RHAPSODY, to Jesper. Next, (presumably) Jesper approached Peter Iwers [b]. At that time, Peter was still a member of IN FLAMES, but he was exhausted by the hard on-the-road lifestyle and had decided to leave. And just as he was about to put that plan into action, he received an offer from Cyra. The reason Jesper left IN FLAMES, which could be considered his own leader band, was because \"long tours worsened his addiction,\" so Cyra was based on the premise that \"that\" would not be done. In that sense, it was an ideal band for Peter. At least, at this point. Their debut album was released in 2017. Titled \"LETTERS TO MYSELF,\" the album's title was conceived by Jesper, who felt each song was \"like a letter addressed to himself,\" and Jake agreed, \"Exactly!\" Every track on the album is credited to both Jake and Jesper (except for the Japanese bonus track \"Forever\"), and it's an album brimming with the duo's charm. It's melodic, melancholic, and dramatic, with synthesizers adding a pop and modern touch. While some fans of Jesper and early IN FLAMES felt they wanted \"a bit more of Jesper's style,\" and the album as a whole had a strong AMARANTHE feel with Jake as the main songwriter, elements of Jesper's early melodic death metal were still present throughout the guitar riffs. In any case, it was highly acclaimed here in Japan as well. Jake, who became the band's sole lead singer (as you know, AMARANTHE has a triple vocal lineup), was praised for his versatile singing style, something unimaginable during his time with AMARANTHE. Ouge Valovirta, who was in SHINING at the time, made a guest appearance on the album and played most of the guitar solos (Jesper's playing was more of a guitar melody than a solo), and by the time the album was released, he had officially joined the band. On October 27 of the same year, they played their first headline show in Helsinki, Finland, and their live activities became more active in 2018. Jesper said, \"Of course I'm passionate about making Cyra a band that the world will recognize, but I don't intend to tour as much as IN FLAMES,\" but that year they played more than 35 shows in the US and Europe. However, Peter left the band early in the tour. That year they played two shows in Sweden before flying to the US, but it seems Peter was already gone by then. The band announced they would continue as a four-piece without replacing Jesper. Judging from the live footage, it appears the bass is played via a pre-recorded track. Later, Jesper also temporarily left the band, and Marcus S?nesson of ENGEL, led by Niklas Engelin (who had joined IN FLAMES), filled in for him. Jesper then returned to tour briefly but left again, and presumably Marcus is still playing live if the situation hasn't changed. Jesper hasn't left the band, but it seems that family issues and fluctuations in his mental and physical condition have made it difficult for him to consistently tour. Despite these circumstances, production of their second album, \"No Halos in Hell,\" began quite early in 2018. Recording took place from August to October. Of course, Jesper was fully involved in the production. Ouge played bass on this album. The resulting album, \"No Halos in Hell,\" is a masterpiece that builds upon the strengths of its predecessor while being significantly upgraded. While Jake and Jesper, as well as Ouge, contributed to the songwriting (Jake wrote most of the lyrics), there are also songs written solely by Jake, and his influence is still strong. Nevertheless, Jesper's guitar playing adds the magical touch of the Gothenburg sound throughout, and of course, Ouge does an excellent job as well. While Ouge only played guitar solos on the previous album, this time, perhaps because he was a full member and also involved in songwriting, he plays more emotional melodies that fit the songs better. Guitar solos are not the most important element in Saira's music, but they function as an integral part of the songs, captivating the listener. And Alex, a renowned player, plays the drums as if he's singing. Saira seems to have accepted Jesper's instability and has a system in place to deal with it, so they may be working at an even faster pace than before in the future. I would love for them to come to Japan.
