FOR [ARTPL-104] Japan Music CD

Product Description
Content Introduction Kate Shilonosova, a talented artist based in Moscow, Russia, has changed her solo project name from NV to Kate NV and completed her new album, "?t?|?e FOR," under the label RVNG Intl., a cutting-edge label in the experimental music scene. She was originally the vocalist for Glintshake, an alternative rock/post-punk band influenced by bands like Sonic Youth, and is also a member of Moscow Scratch Orchestra, which reconstructs 20th-century classical musicians with the ideas and avant-garde compositions of Cornelius Cardew, demonstrating her deep musical knowledge. In 2016, she released her first album, "BINASU," on Orange Milk, an important label run by Giant Claw and Seth Graham. Her style, which brilliantly blends Japanese 80s art-pop and modern synthwave elements, garnered high praise in various circles. This album, "?t?|?e FOR," her first since then, shows glimpses of its predecessor in key places, but it takes a much more abstract and minimalist approach to electronic and ambient music, influenced by Italian minimalist composers Piero Miles and Daniel Bacalov, whom she admires, Canadian electronic/classical composer Ann Southam, and Hiroshi Yoshimura. The first half of the album was produced in the spring of 2017, and the second half in the fall. As with the album title, each song is represented by a three-letter word in Russian and English. The album opens with "YXO EAR," a track commissioned by RVNG Intl. for Moogfest to create the soundtrack for a meditation space, and included on the LGBTQ-benefit compilation "Peaceful Protest." The album opens with a truly meditative sound, where layers of floating synths merge in a reverberating space, creating a meandering melody. The following track, "?t?rA TWO," blends the crisp sound of a marimba with human breaths that sound almost like they're played on a harmonium, creating a fantastical world. "?t?c?q OAK" constructs a warm, tango-like minimal sound with marimba and synth loops, and "?{?p?{HOW" layers strange sound loops. Finally, the only vocal track, "?r?p?? YOU," features a song based on a poem by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky. The album features impressive, soaring synth sounds in "???p?x ONE" and "?x???e SEE," which are alternative versions of "?{?p?{HOW," creating a very gentle sound as if her doppelganger were playing in a different environment. After "???u?? DOG," where the sound of bells wavers and synths weave through, the album gently concludes with "?{???? WHO," where a short synth drone loop intertwines with sounds like birdsong. The experimental and abstract sound, which unconsciously oscillates between the ordinary and the extraordinary, yet exudes warmth and exquisite pop sensibility with its minimalist sound, is highly addictive and showcases her exceptional talent, making it a masterpiece that reveals further growth as an artist. The vinyl will be released by RVNG Intl., but the CD release is Japan only. The Japanese edition includes a bonus track, "?t?c?q OAK (Shokuhin Matsuri a.k.a foodman Remix)" by Nagoya-based electronic musician Shokuhin Matsuri a.k.a foodman, who is active on a global scale! ???? 7/16 (Mon/Holiday): Osaka @SOCORE FACTORY (BINASU / RVNG mix set) 7/19 (Thu): Tokyo @KATA (RVNG set) 7/20 (Fri): Tokyo @KATA (BINASU set) 7/21 (Sat): Niigata @Kiyagiba Church (BINASU / RVNG mix set) Media reviews and more Kate Shilonosova, a talented woman based in Moscow, has changed her solo project name from "NV" to "Kate NV" and released a new work on RVNG Intl., a cutting-edge label in the experimental music scene.
