Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes said it \"created emotions never before seen,\" and the album, with its restrained sound that extracts the ultimate beauty of words and melodies, was met with shock and acclaim, receiving overwhelming praise from the media, artists, and audiences. Pitchfork gave it a score of 9.0 (only three albums in 2017 received a score of 9 or higher: this one, Kendrick Lamar, and King Krule). Metacritic, a site that collects reviews from various websites and quantifies their ratings, ranked it the second best album of 2017. It was ranked number one on Tiny Mix Tapes and was selected as one of the top albums of 2017 by many media outlets, and in Japan, it recorded the highest sales of his career, including his time with his predecessor, The Microphones. As the title of M6 suggests, it is a sequel to 'A Crow Looked At Me', opening with M1 which recounts his encounter with Genevi?ve, and is written around his experiences since the release of the previous album, sometimes interspersed with episodes from his childhood and youth. The differences from the previous work are clear, such as the use of distorted guitar (reminiscent of the Microphones era) and drums, and the fact that it is mostly composed of long numbers of over 5 minutes, with two of them exceeding 9 minutes.
