Their 1985 EP \"Bestial Devastation\" and the subsequent 1986 debut album \"Morbid Visions\" attracted significant attention in the underground scene. After refining their sound with \"Schizophrenia\" in 1987, they finally achieved a global breakthrough with \"Beneath The Remains\" in 1989. Furthermore, with 1991's \"Arise,\" they perfected their style, fusing the aggression of thrash metal with the heaviness of death metal, solidifying their global popularity. With 1993's \"Chaos A.D.,\" they shifted to a heavier sound emphasizing groove. In 1996's \"Roots,\" they boldly incorporated Brazilian indigenous music and percussion. This work, which also influenced bands like Korn, had a profound impact on the subsequent nu-metal movement and is still talked about today as Sepultura's masterpiece. In 1997, frontman Max Cavalera left the band. The band's very existence was in doubt, but with Derrick Green as the new vocalist, they relaunched as a reborn Sepultura.
