This is the latest work from N?BOU, a band based in Brussels, Belgium, led by trombonist and composer Nabou Claerhout. After releasing the EP 'Hubert' in 2019 and the full album 'You Know' in 2021, they have gradually gained attention from Belgium to the Netherlands, France, and the UK, and have finally completed their latest work, a dramatically upgraded version, as the brightest hope of 2026 from Edition Records. Their most distinctive feature is their original resonance sound created by the innovative use of effects. Influenced by workshops with Snarky Puppy, Naboo Clairhout skillfully manipulates subtle effects, creating a breathtaking sound design that oscillates between dreamlike atmospheres and melancholic resonances. In addition, his original compositional approach unfolds a wide range of fresh trombone sounds, from lyrical and meditative passages to exhilarating numbers. \"It's as if the music was created to make us reconsider the image of the trombone as an immovable instrument\" (DownBeat Magazine, USA). Naboo Clairhout was born in Antwerp in 1993 to Belgian and African parents and began studying trombone at the age of eight. He became interested in jazz through the playing of Fred Wesley and went on to study at the Brussels Art High School and then at the Kodarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, where he studied under Robin Eubanks and others. Influenced by Mark Guiliana and many other guitarists?Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Bill Frisell, Gilad Hekselman, Lionel Loueke, and others?he established his own musical style and also studied composition under the influence of Ambrose Akinmusire. In 2021, he won the Ghent Young Jazz Talent Award in Belgium, expanding his activities throughout Europe. Since 2023, he has also formed his own trombone ensemble with Robin Eubanks as a guest, and is gaining momentum with stage productions, residency and exclusive composition work in various locations, and appearances at festivals around the world. Currently, in addition to his performance activities, he also serves as a master coach in the classical music department at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, and is undoubtedly considered one of the most promising and innovative contemporary jazz trombonists. Naboo is a quartet consisting of Naboo Klerhout (trombone), Heis Idema (guitar), Trawi Amerling (bass), and Daniel Jonkers (drums). From the very first track, it's clear that this group possesses a special sound in terms of sonic imagery, phrasing, tone, and a sense of liberation. The arrangements are of high quality, filling the sonic spaces with subtle timbres while Naboo Klerhout's smoothly singing trombone and intimate sounds resonate with the other three. Above all, Naboo Klerhout's compositional skills, especially his riff ideas, demonstrate undeniable talent. Media reviews and other sources indicate that this rising star, who has garnered significant praise and attention in the European jazz scene for their originality and sonic depth, is finally releasing their long-awaited Japanese album.
