Having formed a band while at Leeds College of Music, she was discovered shortly after graduation by Matthew Halsall, who leads the UK's GONDWANA. While serving as a support member for GoGo Penguin, Hanya Lani, and others, she released her debut album \"Horizons\" in 2022, produced by Matthew himself. Influenced by ?lafur Arnalds, Bonobo, Moses Sumney, Shabaka Hutchings, Kenny Wheeler, and others, her meditative ensemble sound is filled with a beauty reminiscent of gazing at the horizon and has been highly praised by Giles Peterson and others. This new work is also full of melodious, beautiful, and profound arrangements, and intelligent and emotional sounds, creating liberating music where ECM-style jazz\/electronica\/ambient are on the same continuum. The band consists of up to 12 members, including Jasmine Myra on saxophone and flute, plus bass clarinet, harp, and a string quartet. It's a collective sound featuring local Leeds musicians who also participated in her previous album and have a skillful understanding of the subtle textures of her music. Carmel Smickersgill, who also worked on the previous album, handled the string arrangements. They created the songs using Sibelius and a MIDI keyboard, and then carefully discussed and layered the spaces for the strings. While the previous album dealt with themes of rediscovery and gaining confidence after the lockdown experience, and overcoming mental health struggles, this album features many songs written towards the end of the pandemic, and also incorporates a theme of looking to the future, which is reflected in its sparkling sound (the title track is said to be inspired by Shabaka Hutchings' \"Afrikan Culture\"). The flow from the prologue-like \"From Embers\" to the final track is also wonderful.
