In addition to being a member of Dawes since 2016, he boasts a history of collaborations with Roger Waters, Aimee Mann, and others, and in 2007 he graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a degree in jazz piano. In 2021, he released the jazz album \"Homebodies\" on GroundUp Music, featuring Jeff Parker, Josh Johnson, and others, which received critical acclaim. During the pandemic, he immersed himself in creating demos by programming drum loops in his home studio, and his new jazz album, which heavily reflects the ideas and feelings he experienced at that time, is finally complete. The members are the same as on his previous album, with bassist Paul Bryan (who also handled production, recording, and mixing), known for producing Aimee Mann's Grammy-winning album \"Mental Illness\" and various albums by Jeff Parker, as well as participating in albums and tours with Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Meshell Ndegeocello, and others. And now, guitarist Jeff Parker, who also creates his own unique sonic space as a beatmaker, and Griffin Goldsmith of Dawes also participate on drums. Mastering was handled by Dave Cooley, who has also worked on works by Jeff Parker, Josh Johnson, and Makaya McCraven. Lee Pardini's synth bass and keyboards and tight drum sounds create a restrained space, and Jeff Parker's guitar organically weaves melodies within that space. Paul Bryan's bass further strengthens the production, which has a personal feel to a shared range and tempo. Track 4 is an homage to Bill Withers and has an extremely organic sound. There are many grooves that sound like they were created by a trackmaker, and the fact that they are artists that Michael League is paying the most attention to is interesting in itself.
