As a Chicago native who has become a major force in the scene in recent years along with his close friend Makaya McCraven and others, this latest work is a one-horn album featuring many members from Chicago. It is a concept album that proposes that becoming more conscious of the rituals and routines in people's lives, that is, how they spend their days, can become a source of strength for oneself. The song titles are made up of Marquis's own actions from the moment he wakes up and the meaning and possibilities that those actions bring. Following a string of masterpieces blending R\u0026amp;B\/hip-hop elements, such as the acclaimed \"Modern Flows Vol.2\" (2018), \"LOVE TAPE\" (2019), and \"Soul Sign\" (2020), and further elevating that style with a jazzy, overwhelming live performance by a star-studded lineup, this album, \"New Gospel Revisited\" (2021), develops this direction into an even more seamless and cosmic sound.
