In other words, Death Angel has been at the forefront of the thrash scene since its inception. In the 80s, they were talked about for being a family, with all members being related and very young. After all, their drummer at the time, Andy Galeon, was born in 1972. That means he was only 10 years old when the band was formed. Even when they were making their first album, \"The Ultra-Violence\" (released in 1987), he was still only 14 years old. That means he was still in middle school, which is astonishing. Contrary to their band name, \"Death Angel,\" and the brutal image evoked by \"Ultra-Violence,\" their music was that of a typical Bay Area band, modeled after Metallica. With their complex song structures and lyrics that didn't rely on Satan, they were, in a sense, an \"intelligent\" band. In fact, their 1985 demo, \"Kill as One,\" was produced by Kirk Hammett.
