RIOT was formed in 1975, centered around Mark Reale (G) and Peter Vitelli (Dr). In 1977, they released their first album, \"ROCK CITY,\" on an independent label. The following year, it was released in Japan under the title \"Rock City ~Ruins of Anger~.\" Their musical style, heavily influenced by British hard rock, enjoyed immense popularity in Europe and Japan, and their classic song \"Warrior\" was released as a single under the title \"The Phantom Scream\" and became a smash hit. In 1980, they performed at the inaugural Monsters of Rock Festival alongside Rainbow, Scorpions, Judas Priest, and others. In 1981, they moved to Elektra Records and released their third album, \"FIRE DOWN UNDER.\" From their fourth album, \"RESTLESS BREED,\" released in 1982, they changed vocalists from Guy Speranza to Rhett Forlister and released two albums under this new lineup. Although they disbanded once in 1984, they reformed in 1986, and with a change in members except for Mark Reale, they released their reunion album, \"THUNDERSTEEL,\" in 1988. While retaining their melancholic melodies, THUNDERSTEEL's style evolved into a more powerful, faster, and more contemporary form of speed metal, earning widespread acclaim from metal fans worldwide. Mike Flynnz joined the band as their second guitarist after recording THE PRIVILEGE OF POWER in 1989. They made their first visit to Japan in December 1989, and have since performed numerous times in Japan, consistently releasing albums. They remain immensely popular in Japan to this day. In January 2012, after the release of their 14th album, IMMORTAL SOUL, leader Mark Reale fell into a coma due to a subarachnoid hemorrhage and died on January 25th. This marked the end of Riot's activities. With the passing of their founder and only original member, Mark Reale, the band went on hiatus. The remaining members were in the depths of despair, but guitarist Mike Flynntz and bassist Don Van Stavern led a reunion. With Todd Michael Hall as the new vocalist, Nick Lee as the second guitarist, and Frank Gilchrist on drums, the band changed its name to \"RIOT V\" in 2013 and resumed activities. In 2014, they released \"UNLEASH THE FIRE,\" which was released in Japan under the name \"Riot.\" In October of the same year, they performed at [LOUD PARK 14], captivating the audience with their powerful and aggressive stage presence. Four years after their dramatic comeback, in 2018, their 16th album overall, \"Armor of Light,\" their first release since signing with Nuclear Blast, was released.
