Their album \"The Holographic Principle,\" released last September, was a symphonic and progressive masterpiece that featured not only a mixed choir and orchestra, but also plenty of folk instruments such as the sitar and balalaika, and received a great response. Their first performance in Japan this April was a sold-out success, and it's still fresh in our memories. Now they're back with a new EP, \"The Solace System.\" However, this isn't a newly recorded track. Six tracks that couldn't be included on \"The Holographic Principle,\" but were too high-quality to be shelved, are now being released to fans in the form of an EP. \"The Holographic Principle\" was already a fairly long album, with 12 tracks and a running time of 72 minutes (13 tracks and 75 minutes in Japan). Yet, six more tracks of such high quality remained unreleased. Mark Jansen explains the reason: \"If you don't want to repeat the same thing, you must always remember to keep challenging yourself. \"The Holographic Principle\" was a fantastic result of putting everything into that spirit. Every song written for the album was of very high quality. Unfortunately, we couldn't include all of them because CDs have a 76-minute limit. That said, I personally don't like the double album format.\" Anyone who has listened to \"The Holographic Principle\" can easily imagine the quality of \"The Solace System.\" The moment you play the EP, a massive chorus and a full orchestra burst forth, vividly bringing back the excitement of \"The Holographic Principle.\" Particularly noteworthy is \"Immortal Melancholy.\" Though only three minutes long, it's a breathtakingly beautiful ballad, with Simone singing passionately backed by guitar. It's in songs like this that Simone's vocal ability and charm as a singer are fully showcased. While Epica has performed all types of music, this is actually their first guitar ballad. (Incidentally, this song was previously released on the Japanese version of \"The Holographic Principle.\") Although the tracks on \"The Solace System\" are \"not newly recorded,\" five of the six tracks are completely unreleased. These were omitted from the album because they deviated from the concept of \"The Holographic Principle\" or simply didn't fit the album's flow. In other words, in terms of quality, they are in no way inferior to the tracks on \"The Holographic Principle.\" Furthermore, \"The Solace System,\" despite being an EP, is 30 minutes long. In other words, this EP is very close to a new Epica album, and it's like being able to hear new Epica music for the second year in a row. It's an EP that can be recommended not only to Epica fans, but also as an introduction for those who want to listen to Epica but have never experienced them before.
