After the release of \"Conjuring the Dead\" (2014), they made their first appearance in Japan at \"Loud Park 14,\" and their ferocious live performance caused a sensation in the venue, leading to a quick return visit in May 2015. The brutal performance and the white-faced, blood-soaked stage presence created a cauldron of screams and terror. Belphegor's music has grown more lethal with each release, but their new album (their 11th overall), \"Totenritual,\" their first in about three years, can be considered their ultimate evolution to date. Helmut attacks with curse-filled vocals and guitar work that combines furious riffs with technical playing, while his partner Serpent stirs the brain with heavy bass. Although there are only two official members, Simon \"Bloodhammer\" Schilling's blast-beat drumming, known for his work with Streams of Blood and Panzer Christ, inflicts immense mental and physical damage. The demonic sabbath begins with \"Baphomet,\" depicting the goat-headed heretical god Baphomet. From \"Descendants of the Devil,\" dedicated to Niccol? Paganini, who supposedly sold his soul to the devil to gain his violin skills, to the final track \"Liturgy of the Corpse,\" which ends with the groans of death, this album is filled with a constant stream of miasma and will spread throughout the world like the Black Death (plague) of the Middle Ages. The album was recorded in Austria and Germany and mixed at Audio Hammer Studios in Florida, a mecca for death metal. Working in a studio used by bands like Deicide and Trivium has resulted in a realistic sound that makes you anticipate death with every listen. The album's cover artwork is by Seth Silo Anton, also a member of Septicflesh. The art, so grotesque that it's almost beautiful, perfectly visualizes the band's musical world.
